Windass is one of a number of players who have struggled to cope when the realisation sets in that life as a footballer is over.
Filling time is one of the hardest challenges they can face ЎЄ and one that presented Savage with a real problem DURING his playing days.
He added: "There is a lot of boredom in football. Don't get me wrong, it's the best job in the world, no question, but the higher up the scale you go the more rest you need.
"Rest is very important but it's also very boring. You've got game after game after game and you have to be at your best for each one, like a race horse.
"The boredom is quite hard sometimes but there are only so many clothes you can buy, cars you can purchase and golf courses you can play.
"It's the best life in the world but when it finishes all of those possessions are no substitute for what you lose.
"The easy option for a fan is to say 'he's on X amount a week so how can he be depressed or down?'.
"But sometimes it can be a lonely place and you can be down. You're just a normal person.
